Search Results Sort By Date Not Relevance changes the default sorting of search results from “relevance” to date.
Normally, when doing a standard CTRL-K (aka “faceted”) search,
the results are sorted by ”relevance”. If you are usually searching for the most recent message on a topic it is very annoying that you always have to change the sort order to “date” because neither does Thunderbird keep the setting nor is there an easy way to change the default. Enters Search Results Sort By Date Not Relevance.
